Insulin Management Software Supports System-Wide Glycemic Best Practices with a Personalized Approach to Dosing that Prioritizes Patient Safety

WALTHAM, MASS. (November 17, 2020) – Glytec, the only provider of insulin management software across the continuum of care, today announced that Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMH) selected its eGlycemic Management System® (eGMS) software. SMH is implementing Glytec’s eGMS at its 839-bed regional medical center in Sarasota, with plans to expand usage to its new, 110-bed hospital in Venice that is scheduled to open in 2021.

On average, 30-40% of hospital patients in the U.S. – including those with and without a diabetes diagnosis – require insulin to help manage glycemic changes. With extensive research linking poor blood glucose control to higher rates of complications, especially among patients with comorbidities, eGMS helps standardize clinical practices and deliver more personalized care for patients living with diabetes and others who experience variability in glycemic control during their hospital stay.

Earlier this year, Sarasota Memorial was recognized among the 100 Top Hospitals by IBM Watson Health and the top 10 hospitals in Florida by U.S. News and World Report. It also was recently named one of the world’s “Most Wired” hospitals by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME).

“Sarasota Memorial is repeatedly recognized for superior patient care, and a big part of earning that distinction comes from their continued focus on innovation that directly impacts patient safety,” said Jordan Messler, Executive Director of Clinical Practice, Glytec. “They recognize the broad impact standardizing glycemic management has on improved outcomes and the critical role technology can play. With the help of Glytec’s eGMS modules, SMH will be able to deliver best practices and standards of care for glycemic management that will ensure optimal patient outcomes for the entire community."

The core of the Glytec’s eGMS is its FDA-cleared insulin titration software Glucommander™. Glucommander has been used in nearly 300 hospitals across the United States, helping providers get patients into target blood glucose ranges in a safe and timely manner. The solution is proven to reduce severe low blood sugar by 99.8%, 30-day readmissions by 36-68% and length of stay by up to 3.2 days

Glytec’s eGMS will integrate Sarasota Memorial’s electronic health record to make personalized insulin dosing recommendations.
